ARNOLD PHILLIPS (Snout)

Now in his seventh decade of “trying to act” – as he puts it – Arnold is nothing if not “a snapper-up of ill-considered trifles”. His appearances span from playing the First Comedian in NF Simpson’s Resounding Tinkle at the NUS Drama Final 55 years ago to performing as Friar Lawrence in the 1990 Everyman production of Romeo and Juliet at Dyffryn Gardens with the same splendid Director as this evening.

This century, his Shakespearean performances for Everyman include character cameos in As You Like It (Adam), Measure for Measure (Elbow) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Flute). He has also played Major Courtney in The Ladykillers and Klopov in Gogol’s The Government Inspector – both performed in the Seligman Theatre, Chapter.

However, his favourite roles in the Festival to date are as Eli Jenkins in last year’s production of Under Milk Wood and as the Baker in 2018’s Fiddler on the Roof.

A past Chair of Everyman, this company is in his DNA.
