The Tempest

Thu 20th Jun 2024 to Fri 28th Jun 2024, various times

Blurring the lines between reality and illusion, castaways navigate a reimagined tale of sorcery, revenge and forgiveness.

Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival is delighted to welcome back experienced and versatile international director and Artistic Director of Black RAT Productions, Richard Tunley.

Set against the backdrop of a plane crash on a mystical, remote island, this contemporary production blends the timeless magic of Shakespeare’s dark comedy with the gripping supernatural intrigue of sci-fi hit TV drama Lost. Prepare to be captivated.

The Tempest was first performed in 1611 and is considered to be the last play that Shakespeare wrote alone. It addresses themes of freedom, empathy and forgiveness, and nature versus nurture.

Yn cymylu’r llinellau rhwng realiti a rhith, mae criw llongddrylliad yn cyflwyno stori sydd wedi’i hail-ddychmygu am ddewiniaeth, dial a maddeuant.

Mae’n bleser gan Ŵyl Theatr Awyr Agored Caerdydd groesawu Richard Tunley, cyfarwyddwr rhyngwladol amryddawn a phrofiadol a Chyfarwyddwr Artistig Black RAT Productions, yn ôl unwaith eto.

Gyda damwain awyren ar ynys anghysbell a hudol yn gefndir, mae’r cynhyrchiad cyfoes yma’n asio comedi dywyll oesol Shakespeare â chwilfrydedd goruwchnaturiol gafaelgar y ddrama deledu ffuglen wyddonol lwyddiannus, Lost. Paratowch i gael eich gwefreiddio.

Perfformiwyd The Tempest am y tro cyntaf yn 1611 ac mae’n cael ei hystyried fel y ddrama olaf a ysgrifennodd Shakespeare ar ei ben ei hun. Mae’n trafod themâu rhyddid, empathi a maddeuant, a natur yn erbyn magwraeth.
