Everyman Theatre, Cardiff’s liveliest and most adventurous theatre company, was founded in 1942, with the festival set up in 1983.

With our Clubroom in Chapter, Canton, we hold weekly Clubnights and stage productions throughout the year as part of our Playhouse season.

Chairman's Welcome

Toby Harris, Everyman Chair

Warmest welcome to the Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival! Everyman Theatre Cardiff is an integral part of the city’s cultural landscape; its history is rooted in a passion for community-driven drama and theatre. Whilst the Festival (this year in its 41st year!) is a beloved tradition and an established high point on the arts calendar of South Wales, it is important to note it compliments and is part of a much wider set of activities, notably our Playhouse Season of productions, our youth and community ventures, and our weekly Clubnight programme of fringe productions and professionally-led workshops. You’ll find a gallery of some of our recent non-Festival activities below and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the variety.

Our commitment to inclusivity and education has long been a hallmark of our identity: we have actively engaged in workshops, youth theatre projects, and collaborations with schools to nurture local talent and foster a love for the performing arts among young people.

We are proud to be based at Chapter, one of the premier arts venues in Wales, since it opened in 1971. Everyman also performs in various venues around Cardiff, across Wales and even internationally, maintaining its ethos of community and accessibility.

As well as being the current Chair of Everyman, I am a techie at heart – so please indulge me for a moment! The company’s adaptability and resilience have been key to its longevity and success, from its formation in 1942, the founding of the Festival in 1983, to surviving the pandemic through virtual performances and online community events. In recent years, Everyman Theatre has embraced modern technology: our cashless bar and now entire online programme that you are currently reading are notable additions. We continue to use social media to reach wider audiences and keep the spirit of community theatre alive. Today, Everyman remains a vibrant and vital part of Cardiff’s cultural fabric, continuing to entertain, educate, and engage audiences with its passion for theatre. We cannot do any of this without you, our audience, or our membership.

We receive no external funding. All our income is generated from ticket revenue, bar receipts and membership – all sustained by the generosity of our members’ time. If you would like to be a part of the magic, we would love to have you on board: join us today!

I hope you enjoy our time with us and thank you again for supporting us.
