Meet The Directors
Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival is proud of its professional links with local professionals, many of whom have a long-standing relationships with the festival.
In 2017, we’re delighted to welcome back Director & Choreographer, Richard Tunley to lead the production of Spamalot. His previous productions at the festival, such as ‘Sweet Charity’, ‘Guys & Dolls’, ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘Into The Woods’, demonstrate his unique skills at translating much loved musicals to our outdoor theatre space.
Joining Richard on the creative team for ‘Spamalot’ is Rob Thorne Jr as Musical Director. Drawing on his vast experience and expertise in this field and following his magical Musical Direction of ‘Into The Woods’ at 2016’s festival, we know music lovers are in for a treat!.
We’re excited to bring Richard Nichols to the festival for the first time this year! A director and performer, Richard has extensive experience in many aspects of theatre throughout South Wales. He will be at the helm of our Light Entertainment production of, ‘The Vicar of Dibley’.
Simon H West returns for his 12th production as a director for the festival this year! Having directed our Light Entertainment productions of ‘Fawlty Towers’, ‘Blackadder’ and ‘Allo Allo’, Simon is returning to the Shakespeare segment of the festival, where he began in 2001 when he directed ‘Twelfth Night’. This year he turns his hands to the tragedy of ‘Macbeth’.
AndGo Productions and Emma-Jayne Parker return to direct our Family Production of Disney’s Aladdin Jr. Having directed the past four magnificent productions in this category, Alice In Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, Beauty & The Beast and Peter Pan, we know the families of Cardiff are in for another treat!
